Hey you! Did you know everyone has a completely unique menstrual experience? From cycle lengths to PMS to first period products, everyone is different! Did you know that by talking about our experiences openly, we’re able to learn more about each other and ourselves? Yup! In fact, we believe that talking about our bodies helps us have better relationships with them.

From a young age we are taught to feel shame for having a period, and that stigma has stuck with a lot of people throughout their lives. Period conversations are often dismissed for being too taboo, or outright inappropriate. As a result, people who menstruate can find it hard to practice self-love.

Bleed & Tell is a blog series where people are proudly sharing their period product stories – including how they ended up using nixit and why they love it! Keep reading to find out their #1 tip for new nixit users.

Before nixit, what was your go-to period product? Why did you start using said product?

My go-to period products before nixit were tampons. I had always wanted to try a cup or period underwear but after having babies, my period was SO heavy and I was afraid to stray from what I knew. I LOATHED pads and tampons were really the only option I thought I had!

What sort of pain points did you experience with tampons?

Tampons were so dang uncomfortable. I had to wear Super Plus and STILL leaked. The soggy string made me gag and honestly, smelly. I had some pretty large clots that I’d pass and I’d be afraid to be out in public without backup just in case I bled through. Again, after having babies my period was very heavy and I ended up bleeding for up to 7 days - wearing tampons for an entire week was uncomfortable and really irritating to my vagina.

How many cycles did it take you to nail nixit? What's your #1 tip for others who might be having a tricky time?

If I’m being honest, I’m still learning tips but I think I had my first leak free period after about 4 cycles. I am also learning a lot about my body. I’ve noticed throughout this process that the location of my cervix changes and on different days of my period. I have to insert nixit a different way to get the right fit. I heard this tip recently that has really helped: bear down when you think you’ve got it in completely - it frees up some extra space and you can give it an extra push and tuck behind your pubic bone.

What do you love the most about nixit now? Why would you encourage others to try it?

I love that I can have it in for up to 12 hours with no worries. I can barely feel it and it’s not uncomfortable like tampons. Not to mention, I don’t have to spend the $$ on tampons ever again. One last thing: my periods have actually improved since switching to nixit - less bleed time and not as heavy. I think my body is really grateful that I’m not sticking chemicals up into my body anymore!
