Are there disadvantages to menstrual cups or discs?
Traditional menstrual cups come in different shapes and sizes, and finding the right fit can depend on your flow, age and whether you have had a child. The advantage to the nixit disc-style menstrual cup is that it just comes in one size and fits most people – it’s soft and supple shape conforms to your body for a leak-proof fit.
What is a menstrual disc?
Just like a menstrual cup, a menstrual disc collects your flow and is inserted into your vaginal canal. nixit’s disc-style cup sits higher in the vaginal canal (in the widest part called the vaginal fornix) and uses your anatomy to stay in place
How do menstrual discs work?
The nixit disc-style menstrual disc sits below your cervix and collects your flow (rather than absorbing it like a tampon). Your anatomy holds it securely in place and you can leave it for up to 12 hours before removing, washing and re-inserting. 91% of our users rarely or never feel it when it is inserted!
Which is better – menstrual cups or pads?
Menstrual cups can be inserted for up to 12 hours. The nixit menstrual disc holds up to 70ml of flow, so it has a much longer wear time than sanitary pads (typically they hold between 5–15ml of fluid). Menstrual cups are also more eco-friendly, don’t cause rashes or irritation and are very cost-effective.
Do gynaecologists recommend menstrual cups?
Yes, other than their environmental benefits, experts recommend menstrual cups as the risk of TSS is significantly lower than with traditional products like tampons.
