Hey you! Did you know everyone has a completely unique menstrual experience? From cycle lengths to PMS to first period products, everyone is different! Did you know that by talking about our experiences openly, we’re able to learn more about each other and ourselves? Yup! In fact, we believe that talking about our bodies helps us have better relationships with them.

From a young age we are taught to feel shame for having a period, and that stigma has stuck with a lot of people throughout their lives. Period conversations are often dismissed for being too taboo, or outright inappropriate. As a result, people who menstruate can find it hard to practice self-love.

Bleed & Tell is a blog series where people are proudly sharing their period product stories – including how they ended up using nixit and why they love it! Keep reading to find out their #1 tip for new nixit users.

Before nixit, what was your go-to period product? Why did you start using said product?

Organic tampons and pads, traditional menstrual cup, or cloth pads. Using nontoxic products is very important to me. Switching from conventional to organic tampons/pads helped with cramps.  Cloth pads helped me save money and they’re more absorbent than disposable pads. Traditional cups saved me money too and were more convenient.

What sort of pain points did you experience with those products and how did nixit solve the problem?

I hate not being able to know if I’ll use up a full tampon or not. Pulling out dry tampons! 😖

Cloth pads are nice but not very convenient since they can move around and it takes time to rinse them out. Can’t swim with them, and not too comfortable to workout in them.

Traditional menstrual cups tend to migrate on me and are hard to reach/remove since I have a high cervix. Sometimes I couldn’t tell if the cup was open all the way until I felt it pop open later which is not pleasant lol. I also don’t like suction.

With nixit I am able to swim with it, I can insert it before I start bleeding + not worry about how much or how little I’m bleeding, insertion + removal is comfortable, it doesn’t take long to rinse/wash before re-insertion, it doesn’t migrate on me, and no suction!

How many cycles did it take you to nail nixit? What's your #1 tip for others who might be having a tricky time?

2 cycles.

nixit’s rim is very soft and can squish up against your body so I highly recommend using lube for insertion/placement. nixit lube is my current favorite lube! ❤️

What do you love the most about nixit now? Why would you encourage others to try it?

The rim is soft so I don’t feel any pressure, the high capacity, and most importantly - no suction. 👌

I encourage others to try nixit because of its different shape. I personally think it’s healthier or just better for you to use this nixit shape (vs a traditional cup) because it doesn’t use suction to stay in place. The capacity is also generally higher than traditional cups too. Another good feature is auto-dumping— you may be able to leave nixit in for the full 12 hrs on your heaviest day without needing to remove it. Just bear down and let it self empty, then tuck it back in place. You can’t do that with traditional cups. :)
